About my work with ASU Student Life
I joined the ASU Student Life Team in January 2020, my freshman year at ASU. This team is made up of student workers with various multimedia capabilities who create marketing and editorial content under Arizona State University’s Educational Outreach and Student Services Marketing Department. This department oversees internal marketing for other university departments such as:
- Career and Professional Development Services
- Counseling Services
- Greek Life
- Sexual and Relationship Violence Program
- Sun Devil Fitness
- & more.
As a writer, I wrote nearly 40 stories promoting the efforts of these departments to students and the larger ASU community. My samples below exemplify a common type of story I worked on in this role—the student feature. These stories were created to showcase the important and outstanding work of ASU students and how university resources helped them make the most of their education.
One other specific campaign I worked on in this role had to do with disseminating targeted messages to the ASU student body during the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2020-2021, a significant amount of content created by my team encouraged students to mask up, social distance, test regularly and eventually, get vaccinated. In addition to creating content, we assisted professional members of the team in crafting the university’s overall COVID-19 messaging as well through focus groups and brainstorming sessions.
In another project I had the privilege of working on, I worked closely with members of the University’s Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention department to create both written and social content. Through this content, I helped promote their Sexual Violence Prevention Leadership Program (which I participated in myself), their messaging around Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
My work with SRVP resulted in my transitioning to a social media management position on the ASU Student Life Team. In this role, I manages the team’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter profiles while also helping brainstorm and produce content for the official Arizona State University TikTok account (now inactive).
